Rudolfs Abelin

Our history

The Gardens of Norrviken is a dream fulfilled. The founder, Rudolf Abelin, arrived in 1905, looking for a place where he could create “a living garden museum”. He wanted to create a garden that people would admire. He also wanted to develop new cultivation methods, for which he among other things was awarded a gold medal at the World Fair in Paris. We invite you to join our Garden History Walk in order to get more insight into Abelin’s passionate life-time achievement.

Our journey at Norrviken has just started, in spite of our more than a century-old history. In 2013 the park was bought by five gentlemen with a Båstad connection. This with a view to develop and strengthen the cultural heritage of Bjäre, resulting in a major undertaking to recreate, restore and develop an establishment that for decades had needed more effort.

Since 2018 Norrviken is owned by Backahill AB to 100 %. The operation of the company is managed by a separate company, Norrviken Utveckling, which currently it employs 35 year-round staff members plus a number of seasonal employees and student employees in the summer months.

As part of our development, we acquired the RAVINEN Kulturhus in the fall of 2022. The goal is to develop and jointly strengthen the two destinations in the long term for a vibrant Bjäre all year round.
