Weeds – Nature's Vital Works of Art
Welcome to the most vibrant exhibition of the spring at Norrviken Gardens. In collaboration with Pollinate Sweden and the acclaimed photographer Lena Granefelt, we celebrate the wild and often overlooked – weeds.
What exactly is a weed? Instead of seeing it as something unwanted, we invite you to explore the importance and beauty of weeds. They are nature’s survivors, the first food of spring for bees, bumblebees, and birds, and a colorful reminder of vitality and sustainability. With Lena’s stunning photos and Pollinate Sweden’s valuable education, we challenge the norm of what a garden should be. Here, you’ll learn about the crucial role weeds play in our ecosystems, and perhaps you’ll see your own garden through new eyes.
"Future gardens are not about perfection, but about balance. The most beautiful gardens are those where nature gets to be a co-creator."
– Anneli Runesdotter Nickel, Head Gardener, Norrviken Gardens.
The exhibition, housed in our greenhouse Erikshus, also offers the chance to delve deeper into the world of weeds with the book The Weed Bible by Lisen Sundgren, an expert on wild plants.
Come and discover nature’s most persistent and vital works of art – and uncover the beauty in the wild.

Pollinate Sweden
Pollinate Sweden is an educational platform that was founded in 2017 by Anna Lind Lewin and Lotta Fabricius Kristiansen. Pollinate Sweden works to ensure that pollination issues receive the same attention as climate change, plastic in the oceans, and food waste. Pollinate Sweden compiles and communicates facts that demonstrate the profitability of working for biodiversity. "We aim to help change the norm for what a garden should be and highlight the benefits of wild plants that we call weeds," says Anna Lind Lewin, Creative Director of Pollinate Sweden.

Lena Granefelt - fotograf
Lena has been working within the documentary tradition since the 1990s and is behind several acclaimed photographic exhibitions such as Flora Supersum and The Linnean Collection. She is fascinated by the magic of plant growth and the amazing connections and relationships in nature. Her work often focuses on themes such as nature, the power of plants, and biodiversity. Together with Pollinate Sweden, she has also created the touring exhibition SURR, which has traveled to 15 locations.
